She/Her/Hers

Texas and Florida-based Singer/Dancer/Actor/Musician

Hi y’all! My name is Azaria Imani McCants, born and raised in San Antonio, TX. Music has been my life force for as long as I can remember. I was raised by two parents who lived and loved music, but my deepest inspiration comes from my late father, Marquis J. McCants, a writer, producer, poet, and performer. Losing him at a young age shaped everything I do; every step I take is with the hope of making him and my mother proud.

I began singing and playing the guitar at the age of seven, inspired by Sam Cooke and the sound of the 1960s. My love for musical theatre came later, after being accepted into a performing arts high school, where I received foundational training in voice, dance, and acting, and discovered the power of representation. That experience sparked my commitment to DEI and BIPOC-centered learning in the arts. I believe every BIPOC child and artist deserves to be heard, seen, and respected. After auditioning for Howard University’s BFA Musical Theatre program, I found my true home at Florida A&M University, a choice that has healed me musically and spiritually. God has led me on this path, and I’m here to honor the gifts He’s given me. If I’m not on stage, you’ll probably find me at home with my guitar, where it all began.
